Frequently asked questions
What services do you offer?
We specialize in face painting, body art, temporary tattoos, special effects, and more. At Fathom FX, the possibilities are endless
How much do you charge for an event?
Pricing is customized specifically for each event and varies based on several factors - event location, number of attendees, services provided, etc. We do charge a minimum of $50 as a retainer fee for each event at the time of acceptance to reserve your booking. However, we understand some things are beyond your control (changes in weather, sick children, etc.) and we will attempt to accommodate scheduling alterations as much as possible, but cannot guarantee our artists will be available for an alternate desired date/time. If the event is postponed, we will apply the retainer fee to the adjusted date. If the event is cancelled, the retainer fee is non-refundable.
We would be happy to discuss package options with you to make sure your experience with Fathom FX is memorable!
Why do you charge more than some other companies?
At Fathom FX, we strive to provide top-notch artistry while using high-quality products designed for the industry.
Have you ever heard of the adage "you get what you pay for"? Some other companies may use “non-toxic” paints which are not toxic if ingested but they are not safe to apply to the skin. The products we use are made with FDA-compliant ingredients.
Are the products you use safe for children and/or people with sensitive skin?
Absolutely! Our company chooses quality products with safety in mind. Please let our staff know of any allergies/irritants prior to application, so that we can provide you with the best experience possible.
We understand the need for reassurance, so if you would like our artist to perform a "patch test" prior to the full application, we can accommodate your request.
How long does the application process take?
Our artists set up their workstations to maintain a balance between efficiency and customer satisfaction. The application process will vary based on the intricacy of the design, but our artists try to keep design completion to between 5 and 10 minutes so we can accommodate all of your guests. If you are booking a special effects appointment with an elaborate design, application may take 1-2 hours to apply.
Design options and approximate times can be discussed further when booking your appointment.
How long does the artwork last?
Depending on the application location and product(s) used, our designs may last hours or even days. Our face paint applications should last several hours, while the temporary tattoos may last a few days.
As always, our office staff can provide details when setting up your package, and the artist can provide additional details/recommendations at the event.
How do I remove the artwork?
Most of the products used by our artists can be removed easily with soap and water, but some products (more complex designs/special effects prosthetic) may require alcohol for removal.
When setting up your package, this can be discussed in detail. Our artists can also be consulted on-site for further assistance, and they may inform the event attendee(s) prior to the application.
How old does my child should be to get their face painted?
Typically, we do not recommend painting children under 4 years of age. For safety reasons, we will not paint anyone that is sick (including a runny nose) or if they have open wounds/sores on the application area. Our artists are creative, and are not limited to only applying paint on the face. Our realistic-looking yet temporary airbrush tattoos look great on a forearm or leg.
Any of these topics can be discussed in further detail with our staff, and we can also answer any additional questions you may have by one of the methods listed in the "Contact" section.
